The Revver Desktop app stores information in an app cache location to manage settings, logs, and cached web page information. Occasionally it may be necessary to clear this location to improve performance and resolve common issues.
This article will discuss what the app cache is, what it contains, and how to clear it out.
What is the App Cache?
The app cache is the location the Revver Desktop app uses on your computer to store the following:
Temporary storage for files checked out from Revver.
Tracking checked out files to facilitate automatic check-in.
Temporary storage for files that are being uploaded/imported into Revver.
Application debug logs.
The web cache for the desktop app.
And user settings and connection information.
Locating & Navigating to the App Cache
The app cache is located in the "appdata" folder for your Windows user and can be found in the following location:
%appdata%\Revver
Note: %appdata% is an "environment variable" and refers to your roaming application data folder. This is a system-defined folder and is specific to your Windows user folder.
For example, the actual location will look something like:
C:\Users\YourWindowsUser\AppData\Roaming
Navigating to the Appdata Folder
The easiest way to navigate to the location is by using the Windows File Explorer and entering the file path.
Opening the Windows File Explorer can be done by:
Locating it in your Start Menu by typing in or searching for 'File Explorer'.
Using the Windows keyboard shortcut "Windows Key + E"
If it is located on your desktop or pinned to your task bar, look for the 'Folder' icon.
With the File Explorer open, click on the address bar at the top of the window and type in %appdata% and hit the Enter key.
This will take you to the appdata folder for your Windows user. In that location, locate the 'Revver' folder in the file list.
Clearing the App Cache
Clearing the app cache is done for troubleshooting purposes, and can help resolve some issues experienced in the Revver Desktop app.
Before clearing out the app cache for the Revver Desktop App, it is important to note that this will clear out your Revver Desktop App user settings, such as:
Any custom Watched Folder or File Check in delay settings.
Automatic check-in settings.
Watched folder path.
Custom checked out files path.
Check out with desktop app configuration.
Custom printer add-on options.
Please be sure to note down any custom settings you had within the application if possible before clearing out the app cache.
We also recommend saving and checking in all files you have checked out with the desktop app before proceeding.
To clear out the app cache, start by closing the Revver Desktop app if it is currently open, then locate the 'Revver' folder in your Windows user appdata folder.
Right click the folder and select 'Rename', then rename the folder to something different, such as 'Revver.old'.
Note: We recommend renaming the folder rather than deleting it (or its contents) so that any files that were checked out, or waiting to be uploaded, can be recovered as necessary.
After this has been completed, open the Revver desktop app. You will know the process was completed successfully when it prompts you to choose your Revver server region.
