Smart Classification is a new AI-powered metadata field type that automatically determines which category a document belongs to based on criteria you define. You can create a Smart Classification field with a set of classification options (for example, Payroll, Benefits, and Onboarding for an HR documents field), describe what distinguishes each option or work with an AI-generated description, and save the field for use anywhere in your account.
Smart Extract can use your Smart Classification to assign the correct classification automatically when it processes a document. Soon, you can pair the classification with a Smart Filing automation to automatically move your files based on their classification assignment.
Required Permissions
You’ll need the Metadata management feature enabled to create this new field. To pair it with Smart Extract, you’ll need the Revver AI management feature enabled to apply the field to a location in Revver.
Creating a Smart Classification field
Step 1: Navigate to All Features > Metadata.
Step 2: Select Add New Field in the upper right corner, then choose Create New Field.
Step 3: In the New Metadata Field modal, open the Field Type dropdown and select Smart Classification.
Step 4: Give the field a name (for example, “HR Document Type”) and continue to the next step.
Step 5: Add the classification options for this field. For example, an HR document field might include options like Payroll, Benefits, and Onboarding.
Step 6: For each option, provide a description of what Smart Extract should look for to determine if a document fits that classification. You can write this description yourself or use AI to generate a starting description for you.
Step 7: Save the field. Your new Smart Classification field is now available to apply to documents and use with Smart Extract.
Tips
Use Smart Classification with Smart Extract so documents are automatically classified as they’re processed.
Write clear, specific descriptions for each classification option. The more distinct the criteria, the more accurate the classification results.
You can use the AI-assisted description generator as a starting point, then refine it to match your business terminology.
A Smart Filing automation is coming soon that will let you pair classification options (such as Payroll) with a filing destination (such as a Payroll folder), so documents are automatically routed once classified.
