One of the benefits of the Revver desktop app, if you are regularly editing files in Revver, is the option in the desktop app for smoother check-out and editing of files. You can double-click a file and have it automatically check it out (and download it behind the scenes) and open it in the standard program for the file on your computer. After making changes on your computer and saving it, the file can automatically check back in to Revver as a new version.

In contrast, using the Revver web app from your internet browser (https://app.revverdocs.com) gives you the ability to have quick and easy access to files, share files by email or link, or access a file directly from a link. The “checkout with desktop app” feature in the Revver web app allows you to much more smoothly jump between the Revver web experience in your browser and the Revver desktop app, when needed.

Access & Feature Requirements

In order to checkout files while using the web browser you will need to be signed in to the Revver desktop app on a windows machine. If you are not signed in on the desktop app, the option to "checkout with desktop app" will not appear on the web browser.

You will also need to have a full or essentials user license, the Check In/Out feature enabled, and write item permissions on the file you are looking to checkout.

Checking Out Files In the Web Browser

If you meet the listed requirements above then when you right-click on a file in the Revver web experience, or click on the three dots next to the file name, you will now have an option in the menu to “Check Out with Desktop App." Follow the steps below for more details on how to use this option.

To check out a file from a web browser to your desktop app, navigate to a file in your Revver account and right click it or select the three-dot icon next to the file name.

Click on the option labeled 'Check out with Desktop App'.

The file will check out using your open Revver Desktop App instance and open in its default associated program so you can view and make changes to the document.

With the file checked out from the Revver Desktop App rather than your browser, saving changes and closing the file is fully supported by the Revver Desktop Apps automatic check-in feature.
