Governance (formerly Retention) is a feature that allows you to protect documents from certain actions within Revver for specific periods of time. This powerful feature can allow you to:

  • Protect an item from Deletion

  • Protect an item from being Edited

  • Protect an item from being Moved

  • Protect an item from being Shared

It can do all of these for a specific timeframe, until a specific date, or an indefinite retention period.

How to add Governance to an item:

  1. Navigate to the item in Revver; Retention can be set on a Cabinet, Drawer, Folder, Subfolder or Document.

  2. Select the Governance Button in the Details pane

  3. you can then select the "+" symbol to add governance on that specific item

    1. please note: if you don't see the plus symbol, you do not have permission to add governance to this item. Governance can only be added or changed by an Administrator user.

  4. you can now set your governance settings for this item.

Governance Settings

**Inheritance behavior only appears when adding governance to a container**

Inheritance behavior allows you to create an automatic governance setting for items within a container. This will allow you to use this governance to apply to new items added to this container or just this specific container

Protection is where you define what you would like this item protected from. you can protect the document from Deletion, Edits (which includes the file's name), Moving or cutting, and Sharing.

Lock this setting allows you to stop users from changing the governance setting itself. Only Retention Administrators would be able to unlock this specific item.

Expiration type

  • Specific - if you have specific expiration parameters such as a specific timeframe or a specific date, you can set those actions in the expiration settings

  • Indefinite - this item's governance will never expire
