Public Access Links are just one of the many ways that Revver allows you to share documents with your guest users. When you need to give faster and easier access to clients, coworkers, or guest users, you can create direct links to files and folders. Anyone who possesses the link has the ability to access shared folders files without the need for authentication, no passwords required.

Please note, it is our goal to ensure easy access to your files while maintaining the highest standards of security. Please exercise caution not to post links to your documents in a public forum or setting as anyone with the public access link URL can login and view the shared files or locations.

How it Works

There are multiple ways for you to create a public access link, start by locating the file or folder you want to share within Revver. Once located, right click it and you should see a couple of options available to you.

Clicking on ‘Share’, you should see two tabs at the top of the window that appears -- 'Email' for the normal secure sharing options, and 'Link' for creating a public access link.

When clicking on the 'Link' option, you will be greeted with a number of options available to you to customize the public access link you wish to provide.

The options shown in the screenshot above are as follows:

  • Shared Items: This is the name of the location or item you are sharing with this public access link. Note that when sharing drawers or folders, you are sharing not only the location, but all of its contents.

  • Require Name and Email Address: This will require anybody using the public access link to enter their name and email address. Note that this is only for audit logging purposes and should not be considered a secure form of validation or credential requirement.

  • Advanced Settings: These advanced options allow you to fine tune what access the user receives when using this public access link:

    • Permissions: These options determine what access the user has to the shared items. 'View' is required and checked by default. 'Download' will allow the user to download any files they are provided access to, and 'Write' will allow them to upload files to that location.

    • Uses Remaining: This allows you to dictate how many times this public access link can be used before it expires.

    • Expiration Date: This allows you to dictate how long the public access link is active for.

Once you are satisfied with the options you have selected, click on 'Generate Link', a URL will be generated that you can copy onto your clipboard and share.

Administration and Security

It's important to note that actions done by someone using a public access link will be recorded in the audit logs as the user who generated the link, with a tab indicating that it was through a shared link and with the name input by whomever used the link.

As an administrator, you are able to access the ‘Public Access Links’ dashboard where you can view all currently and previously active links. This is accessible by first clicking on the ‘Menu Expansion’ button on the top left of the Revver page and selecting the ‘All Features’ pop-out menu.

With the pop out menu open, click on the 'Public Access Links' option.

The ‘Public Access Links’ dashboard will allow you to see all public access links that have been created, when they were created, who they were created by, and some information about their current status.

You have the option to hover over a link in the list and delete it by clicking on the trash can icon. There are also check boxes to the left of each public access link in the list so you can select multiple and delete them as necessary.
