In Revver there is a hierarchy of permissions that can be granted to your users to accomplish their document related work.

This Hierarchy of permissions indicates what you can do, what you can see, and the level of participation granted to user types, user roles, or user groups.

The hierarchy is as follows:

  1. License - Each License type (Full User, Essentials, or Guest) can only have the possibility of certain permissions

  2. Item permissions - an item permission gives the user the ability to do specific tasks within that specific item (example, the user can have a system permission allowing them to create a folder, but if they don’t have permission to edit a specific drawer, they WILL NOT be able to create that folder.)

  3. System permissions - a System permission allows the user to use specific features within Revver

Group vs User permissions

In the case of User permissions or Group permissions, your user’s permissions will include all available features allowed to the group or user (as long as their license permits.) and the user will have access to all item permissions associated with their group.

**Please note that** a user’s item permissions can be RESTRICTED by using the “restricted” permission

Example of a restricted user^^

EXAMPLES
USER A - “User A” is granted a Standard User License, and is part of “Group B”
User A - has permission to do nothing in the system permissions
Group B - has permission to do everything in the system permissions

This user will have permission to do everything because it’s part of a group that has permission to do everything.

USER B - “User B” is granted a Standard User License, and is part of “Group A”
User B - Has permission to do everything in the system permissions.

Group A - has permission to do nothing in the system permissions.

This user will have permission to do everything because the user’s permissions allow them to do everything and the group’s restrictions will not restrict the user.

USER C - “User C” is granted a Guest user license, and is part of “Group B”

User C - is a guest so they have limited permissions available to them

Group B - has permission to do everything in the system permissions

This user will only be able to have guest permissions, regardless of group membership.

FAQ

How do I make sure that a user has permission to all features?

That user must be either:

  1. Granted the specific permission to use those features.

  2. Added to a group with permission to use those features.

How do I make sure that my user doesn’t have permission to use certain features?

Make sure that the user:

  1. Does not have the specific system permissions to use those features

  2. Is not added to a group with permission to those features

I have a user that is part of a group, how do I restrict ONLY that user from a specific cabinet?

  1. Go to the Documents tab in the navigation menu

  2. Select the cabinet (this can also apply to drawers or folders) then click “permissions” in the details pane

  3. Select the Edit button in the permissions menu

  4. Select the ‘edit’ option next to the user you would like to restrict

  5. Select the Restrict All option in the permissions menu
