This article explains which PDF versions are best supported by the Revver document viewer, which is powered by Apryse WebViewer. While Apryse supports a wide range of PDF formats, using newer versions of PDFs can significantly improve compatibility and performance when interacting with forms, annotations, and other PDF tools within Revver.

Supported & Recommended PDF Versions

  • Supported File Types: Revver, via Apryse WebViewer, supports PDFs from version 1.3 through 2.0, including PDF/A-1, A-2, and A-3.

  • Recommended Versions: For best results, especially when using Smart Extract, form filling, or annotation, use PDF version 1.5 or higher.

Why PDF Version Matters in Revver

While older PDF versions (such as 1.3 and 1.4) may still render, PDF version 1.5 and above is strongly recommended for use within Revver due to the following improvements:

  • PDF 1.5 introduced object streams and compression enhancements for better performance and compatibility.

  • PDF 1.6, 1.7, and 2.0 offer improved support for interactive forms, annotations, JavaScript, and digital signatures—all of which are supported by Revver through Apryse WebViewer.

If you're using features like Smart Extract, or if you're using workflow automation that depends on form values, using a modern PDF version ensures accurate data capture and reliable routing.
