Revver Reports puts the data and analytics you need for your organization right at your fingertips. This article discusses the difference between reports and dashboards, while also providing some use cases for why one might be used over the other.
Access & Permissions Required
In order to access Revver Reports, your user will require the 'Revver Reports' feature to be enabled on their account.
Creating data sources in Revver Reports requires that the user be able to view the location(s) used in the data source, as well as their profile information.
Both Reports and Dashboards within Revver Reports require a Data Source to be created first. For documentation on how to create a Data Source, please see the following article.
At a glance: Reports & Dashboards
Within Revver Reports, there are two ways you can transform your raw data into powerful reports that fuel your business analytics: reports, and dashboards. They both share many of the same tools and methods of visualizing your data, but where they differ is the state of the data you're viewing.
Understanding the Difference
The key difference between the dashboards and reports is the state of the data you are viewing. Reports are static and only show the data as it existed on the date it was created; this goes for snaps within that report as well, they will only ever show the data as it existed on the date it was saved.
Dashboards on the other hand are not static, and show the data as it currently exists. Dashboards are constantly and automatically updated to show the real time data analytics your business needs.
When to Use Reports
Reports can be configured to run on a schedule, allowing you to get up to date versions of the report on a set schedule. The scheduling system also gives you the ability to automatically send these reports to key members within your organization via email, while saving snaps of each sent report so they can be easily reviewed or retrieved within Revver Reports as needed.
Use Cases
Static view of your data over time:
Reports are scheduled snapshots of what your data looks like.
Snapshots can be compared to each other for analysis, allowing you to highlight changes in your data over time.
Scheduling your reports ensures that this data is delivered on a regular cadence to different team members within your organization.
When to Use Dashboards
Dashboards are a living representation of your data, the information and analytics you are viewing is automatically refreshed every day, and can be manually refreshed as many times as you need to show the most up to date data.
With dashboards you have the ability to add multiple filters to cut and slice the data to exactly what each team needs, making them a one stop shop for getting multiple work streams accomplished.
Some widgets within dashboards can also be configured to contain links that can take you to outside information, or directly to files and locations within Revver itself, giving users access to take direct action within Revver without having to search for the data all over again.
Use Cases
Daily Work-streams and Tasks:
Give your end users the ability to find outstanding issues in your platform, such as:
Missing documents
Missing profiles or metadata
Expiring documents
Contracts
Certifications
Narrow down specific slices of your data to find trends or upcoming tasks your team needs to take action on.
Quick and up to date views of your data that can be refreshed at any point to see the most recent updates.
